Learn * Explore * Try

Here is this month’s edition of LET (Learn/Explore/Try)- your new source of potential ways to enjoy the time that you have regained by allowing my team and I to worry about your money for you. As a lifelong learner, Triangle enthusiast, and avid foodie, I am constantly reading to learn about different topics, seeking new adventures in the Raleigh area, and trying new foods. Each month I will curate a new list of findings by answering the following questions:

  • What am I reading?
  • What new food or restaurant is on my radar?
  • What has me excited right now about life in the Raleigh region?

I hope this newsletter helps you continue learning and discovering new things along your path of financial freedom!

LET’s give it another go!

  • What am I reading?
    • Eat and Run: My Unlikely Journey to Ultramarathon Greatness by Scott Jurek. My wife, Heather, and I have been training for the Tobacco Road Half Marathon on March 15th. As the mileage has increased, I have enjoyed listening to the audible version of this book on the longer runs. The book has been a helpful reminder that we are physically capable of much more than we may ever know. As the voice in my head makes the idea of stopping or slowing down on the run sound very tempting, Scott Jurek’s stories about his grueling 100+ mile races have kept me motivated to keep putting one foot in front of the other. Give the book a try if you’re thinking about running a race or interested in learning about the extreme limits of human physicality:
  • What new food or restaurant is on my radar?
    • Ashley Christensen is continuing to expand her restaurant empire in the Triangle. The winner of the James Beard ‘Outstanding Chef’ award in 2019, Ms. Christensen is now trying her hand with pizza with the opening of her restaurant Poole’side Pies. The restaurant is located next to her first restaurant, Poole’s Diner which put her on the local culinary radar. Based on this proximity, it may prove difficult to try her pizza without ducking into Poole’s Diner for the best macaronic and cheese around! Here’s more on Poole’side Pies:
  • What has me excited right now about life in the Raleigh region?
    • Heather and I have recently enjoyed attending the local chapter of the now international organization, Podcast Brunch Club. Each month, the Podcast Brunch Club sends out a list of several podcasts on a specific topic and then the group meets once per month over brunch to discuss the topic. December’s topic was homelessness, January’s topic was fake news, and this month’s topic is nuclear power. This Club has provided a great platform to meet new people and openly discuss challenging topics. The group is growing and always accepting new members or occasional attendees. Check out this link to the local chapter’s page if interested:

Cheers to Spring time getting closer and closer!
